History and Background

MECL was established to undertake systematic exploration of mineral resources and reduce the time between discovery of a mineral deposit and its eventual exploitation.

  1. October 1972 — Establishment: Mineral Exploration Corporation Ltd. was formed as a public-sector undertaking under the Ministry of Mines after being carved out of the Geological Survey of India (GSI).
  2. Exploration and technical services: Over the following decades, MECL developed capabilities across geological surveys, drilling, geophysics, laboratory analysis, mineral-resource evaluation and related consultancy.
  3. Current identity: The organisation now uses the name Mineral Exploration and Consultancy Limited (MECL) and continues to provide geo-scientific and technical services in support of mineral exploration and national development.

Performance and Achievements

1. MECL Secured 1st Position in National Learning Week for Achieving “Minimum 4-Hour Learning Goal”

In a remarkable achievement, MECL has secured the 1st position among all Central Government organizations across the nation in meeting the “Minimum 4-hour Learning Goal” under the “S” category organisation. This goal, set by the Capacity Building Commission (CBC), required each employee to complete at least 4 hours of iGOT courses during the National Learning Week.
